Creative Explotion

My creative flow is still moving fast, In fact it is exploding! I need to stay off Youtube, LOL It is all I can do to resist buying new supplies. While reasearching mixed media fabric art I found hundreds, if not thousands of mixed media art journal videoes. Yesterday I decided to drag out the container with all my art supplies from my painting days.

I wanted to at least inventory what I had and see if the paints were dried out. Only one bottle had dried out. Yippee. I had 30 minutes before leaving for my quilt guild meeting so decided to finger paint with the acrylics. This was the result.

Nice start for a background. I haven.t decided how to use it or which way to turn it. It kind of looks like the ocean on top or It could be a cloudy sky.
What do you think?

I started a Fall Table Runner to put in my shops.

Finished quilting and embroidering This Fall mini quilt. I want to add two wood buttons to that white piece of fabric but I do not have any. Guess I will buy some on payday. Everything on this mini quilt is hand done. Cutting, quilting, embroidery all by hand.

I am adding this to the back of the mini quilt to help it hold its shape for hanging or sitting on a display holder. I forgot the name of it and didn't keep the package. It irons on both sides.

And last but not least is the Winter hanging quilt. I quilted the snow in a wavy pattern by hand and started quilting the house using embroidery floss to give the illusion of wood slats, and to cover a boo boo. Don't tell.

To further enable my creative explosion my guild had a guest presenter. Guess what she does. Yup Mixed Media Art quilts. Her name is
Michele Sanandajian. Wow such a talented artist. I have already signed up for a class presented by her at Quilfest Orlando in January 2017.

That is my September so far. How about you? What has your creative voice had you doing this month? Please share, I enjoy and am inspired by your talents. If you have a blog send me the address, I would love to visit.

Until next time, let go and create!

Busy, Busy

Wow I have been busy this month of September!
I made Christmas tags,

finished an orphan block I turned into a candle mat,

Made some bowl cozies for the shop,

Cleaned my guest room/

Quilt Studio in preparation to list my condo,

Made a simple Fall table runner and ...

Halloween table runners and toilet tank toppers.

Worked more on adding texture to my Winter Quilt and began quilting it.

Made more gift tags. These are fun to make, they make me smile. ;)

If that wasn't enough to keep me busy, I decided to learn mixed media fabric collage art.

I know I am crazy but for some reason my creative side has just exploded. I have so many ideas I do not have enough time.

I have also been scouring Pinterest and You Tube for mixed media art lessons using paint, beads, paper and other stuff. Good thing I can't afford the supplies or I would never sleep. LOL

How is your creative side doing?

Thanks for stopping by. If you have time leave me a comment, I love hearing from you.

Still here.

I know it seems like forever since I posted. That is because it has, LOL
I took an extended vacation to visit family in Ohio. It was amazingly fun but hot. Last time I went the average temps were in the 70s.

There were family cook outs every weekend.
My stepmother holding my nephews latest pet.

Isn't she adorable?

When I arrived home I began a new Christmas product.

It is also a great way to get rid of scraps.

They finished trees will become gift tags.

I am having so much fun making these tags I can't stop.
Next on the agenda is snowmen gift tags.
I will keep making tags until I get bored making them because I plan on doing some craft sales locally and I need a lot of stock.

Thanks for stopping by. I love hearing from you so please leave a message.

Hearts of Love

Last week I showed the beginnings of my latest project for myself.

This week I have made progress. Each heart has been appliqued down in various styles and I have begun giving them each their own personality.

This one is my first attempt at couching twisted ribbon.

This one I am reviving my hand embroidery skills on. The one in the right hand corner is attached with a blanket stitch using perle cotton black thread in #8 I love daisies so had to add this scrape to the piece.

Progress to date:

I plan on only doing hand work on this wall hanging so after I get through with embellishing the hearts I will hand quilt the background and finish off the edges with either a border or frame.

I plan on cleaning and rearranging my studio in preparation for Holiday creating. I also need room for new items when they are complete. Towards that end I am having a 15% off sale in my Etsy store, daytonadamsel.etsy.com, on every thing but sale items.

Want an additional 5% off go to artyah.com then my gallery DaytonaDamsel, no direct link as of yet, find something you like and message me telling me you saw this blog post and I will give you the 15% plus 5%, a total of 20% on your total purchase. While you are there check out the other galleries and great artist. This is another selling site in its infancy with great customer service.

Halloween

We are half way through the year! Where has 2016 gone? The holiday selling season will be here soon and I have just started making seasonal decor for the shop

I did finally get the snowman appliqued on the wall hanging. This is a picture before applique. I was trying to figure out snowman placement.

I need to stay off YouTube and Pinterest. I keep getting inspired to start new things so nothing gets finished. Could be why my UFO box is crammed full.
This is a picture of an inspiration from Jude at Spirit Cloth.

It is a slow process since I am suppose to let it speak to me as I go. It doesn't talk a lot. LOL

Then I saw instructions for a Halloween candle mat that I thought I could remember how to put together, not. My memory is getting old.

Here is the result of relying on memory.
Doesn't look to bad from the top but what a mess on the bottom.

Eyelashes anyone?

I have another one ready to try after I review the instructions.

Are you thinking about the holidays yet?

Snowmen in Summer

It is hot here in Florida so I decided to cool off with some snow. I had lunch with two of my quilting friends, one visiting from Tennessee, on the river. My local friend brought this snowman fabric for me to make her a bowl cozy.

I fell in love with it! I ask her where she got this fab fabric and she told me one of her customers gave it to her and it was just a scrap. :( I have searched high and low with no results. So if you know the name of this fabric or where it I can get it, please let me know.

I am still working on the house wall hanging. I threw out the snowman made from scrap bating and made a practice needle turn snowman.

Needle turn is something new I am learning. I wanted to add depth so I stuffed this one as I went with cotton bating.

Added arms and a face.

And here he is

I also decided to outline my trees and house. I did not take a picture of it complete yet. Now I will add Mr. Snowman and see if anything else is needed before I quilt.

Thanks for stopping by and remember, if you know where I can get that fabric let me know.

Experiments and Independence

These Last two weeks I have been a busy beaver and not all of it has been fun.
Fun, Experimenting with tree placement on my Winter door Hanging.

I settled on this one. I am not much for symmetry.

And working with my new bird fabric.

Not so fun, experimenting with different styles of lavender sachet designs

and finding out you are allergic to the dried buds. :(

Now what do I do with this giant bag of lavender buds?

Finally, the icing on the cake was making these placemats for a customer.

I have put at least a hundred bindings on by hand with no problems but for some reason I could not get the corners to lay properly on these. By the time I ripped off six bindings my deadline was less than a day away and there was no way I was going to finish these with hand binding. Solution? Youtube video on machine binding. I watched Missouri Star's video on machine binding a couple times and finally finished them. I do not see placemats in my near future again.

The final project was opening a gallery on a new selling site, ArtYah. Etsy has gotten so over crowded with sellers and their buyers have dropped by 14%. This led me to think I needed to move some of my eggs to another basket. I am praying the Artyah basket is a good thing.  You can check out my gallery here http://www.artyah.com/Browse?Seller=DaytonaDamsel

Applique?

Hello my friends. It has been a couple weeks since I posted. Picasa shut down so I have been trying to find a free photo edit program that is easy to use. So far haven't found one but I still have a couple more to try.

As for quilting, I haven't  been very productive since my scrap busting projects. I do have a few new bowl cozies half finished and my sister's runner almost complete but most of this past week and a half I have spent on what I thought in the beginning was an applique door hanging.

I have two sisters who keep their eyes out for quilt fabric when thrift store shopping. Rita, my sister in Ohio, sent me two door hanging patterns that she thought were cute and were only 25 cents.

I pulled the fabric on Sunday and

Cut the pieces and set aside for Monday.
On Monday I realized it was not applique. :(

I also couldn't find the directions.

I thought, "I can figure this out." Wrong.
When it came time to join the side and front I was totally confused. No matter how I laid the pieces they were not going together. ARGH!
I searched again for the directions then gave up.

The next day I was cleaning off my cutting, um dining table and there were the directions. Time for the seam ripper. The pieces are now separated and ready to be pieced properly when my mojo returns. In the meantime...

I haven't been in a fabric store for a month; I am determined to use what I have, but I did need some muslin for an order. I tried, I really did, but I could not resist a little of this sweet bird fabric.

How about you? Do you have a store you try to avoid because you can't resist their items?
